TALK Derby

TALK Derby is an innovative fully funded training and support programme designed to strengthen the development of speech, language and communication (SLC) skills until August 2020, across 8 priority wards in Derby.

All schools, childminders, children’s centres and early years settings in some of the least advantaged areas of the city: Abbey; Alvaston; Arboretum; Boulton; Chaddesden; Derwent; Normanton and Sinfin are eligible to get involved. You can register to access the support and materials by becoming a TALK Derby Champion, click here. You will then be sent login information for the Balanced System® in June 2019.

Better Communication CIC have been commissioned to support these schools, settings and childminders to complete the Balanced System® Scheme for Schools and Settings as part of TALK Derby funded through the Derby City Opportunity Area grant from the Department of Education.

The Balanced System® helps you to recognise everything you do to support speech, language and communication skills and then signposts you to resources, information and training to further develop these skills for all your children.

Schools, settings and childminders in these wards will be supported to use the Balanced System® Scheme for Schools and Settings to understand how they can increase the impact of what they are doing already and decide what additional help would be useful.

If you are a school, setting or childminder in one fo the 8 wards and have received log-in information please follow this link to access your account.

If you have not yet had your log-in information please contact us at

If you are a school, setting or childminder who is not in the TALK Derby 8 wards but would like more information about the Balanced System® Scheme for Schools and Settings downloadable information can be found on the Schools and Settings home page or please email
