NAPLIC is 40 years old in 2026

We have been invited to share examples of NAPLIC Conferences over the years so here is a colllection of the presentations Marie Gascoigne and colleagues have delivered going back to the first mention of the Balanced System in 2008

2008 - The Balanced System is born!  This presentation was given as part of the NAPLIC conference the year that John Bercow reported on his review of provision for children and young people with SLCN.  The core concepts of the RCLST Position Paper published in 2006 are also threaded through this slide deck.  When looking at the very old presentation style - remember it was 18 years ago!!

2014 supporting children and young people with slcn in schools: setting standards to deliver outcomes

NAPLIC 2014 saw the introduction of the early prototype for the Balanced System Scheme for Schools and Settings - a joint venture between Better Communication CIC, NAPLIC and Afasic.  NAPLIC was the instigator of us developing what is now a well established school improvement process with accreditation in order to have a quality mark around SLCN provision at school level.

Naplic 2020 - first online NAPLIC thanks to the Pandemic!

The exciting format was to have a panel debate on supporting CYP with DLD from different perspectives.  Marie Gascoigne was invited to provide the commissioning perspective alongside colleagues the late Prof James Law and Dr Susan Ebbels.  We somehow managed to navigate the online platform at very short notice and with some trepidation - not really appreciating how this was to become the norm for so much of our future interactions!
